Memorial Weekend

My festive display! Now, I need to get on to re-decorating this little area! The picture is of Maggie and Jason's Dad, from 4th of July last year.  I love it. But I was also thinking that I would like an old picture of my grandfather's who fought in the war. Neither of them died in war, but I still would like one.

The best picture of the kids Sunday Morning!

Love me some red, white, and blue!

We had some friends over Memorial Day, and I didn't take one picture. It was so nice!! :)  They swam, ran around, ate, and made some good memories!!

29

Jason turned 29 on the 25th! After you have children, your birthdays pretty much amount to ................. nothing! But, that's fine with Jason!

The kids and I made him a really big card. They glued and wrote and stuck stickers on it!

On the inside, the kids came up with 29 reasons they love Daddy.  Towards the end it was hard for them to come up with stuff, but it was really funny, because there were about 5 things that Kylee 'for sure' wanted on there!

We got him a bucket of goodies of things he likes, popcorn, skittles, suckers, taffy, jerky, pop-it fireworks, and a "Romans" commentary from Charles Swindoll, since he loves Romans.

We ate at Chili's for supper, and then got sno-cones, and played at the park.

Maggie LOVED the swing!! She would not get out, so Jason, pushed, and just kept pushing her. Such a good Daddy. That's what he did the whole time. :)

He stayed up late watching the Spurs win, and it rained a few days ago, so he is a pretty happy man right now! :)

Fredericksburg Finds

Our girls from church go on a Day Trip to Fredericksburg every year.  It's a lot of fun that involves ice cream and shopping!!

The trade days are fun to shop at.  I was eyeing some blue mason jars that were priced pretty high, and at the very end a lady sold me this small one for a $1!! It has a handle on the side, and I love it.  Going to put some flowers of some sort in it.

I've been wanting one of these wooden tool boxes for Jaxon's room.  I saw an idea on pinterest about using one to decorate, but I have a problem.  I like it in the living room!! So, it might just stay there. I don't have anything in it yet, but I like the way it looks.

And my favorite find was this old vintage globe!! I love it; it's pretty dirty, but I think that is even better!! I'm going to WRITE on it!! I've already penciled in my words; I'm just a little scared to start!! :)  I'll let you know, how it turns out!!

A Day Trip

We made a fun, quick trip to the Abilene Zoo yesterday.

Addisyn's 1st grade class was going, so the kids and I, and Lexi and Brianne decided to go along.

Each 1st grader was paired with a 5th grader the whole time at the zoo; they could go wherever they wanted, with each other.  Kylee got to tag along with Addisyn, and her new 5th grade friend, Elizabeth.  They were so cute, and just walked around together, sometimes holding hands, sometimes taking pictures of stuff. (Did you know 5th graders have phones??)

We hung back with Jaxon, Lexi, and Maggie.  These two loved the animals. Look at the picture below with them two in front of the monkey.  It was so funny!! They just stared right at the monkey on the glass. Crazy kids!! The giraffe's were fun too; they ate our crackers, and Jaxon got to see the snake eat a rat!!

Besides Maggie throwing a fit on the sidewalk, everything was so fun!! It was so cute to see Kylee follow around with Addisyn.  They each got a drink from the coke machine!! Kylee thought she was pretty cool.

And of course we made a quick run into Kohl's and Old Navy, while we were there!!

Good times!! I guess we will go again next year with Karter's 1st grade class!!

Oh, my dear Maggie!

Maggie has been acting so bad lately.  I don't know if I have forgotten, but I don't particularly remember this age being so hard.  She just turned 14 months, and is so stubborn and strong willed.

It's just been Maggie and I in town lately; since our MOPS, library, and CBS classes are over the big kids just rather stay with Jason then come to town with boring 'ole mom. And truth be told, they would rather stay with him year round, and never come to town or do their classes. Maybe I should let them, but then they would be hermits and never come out. Which kind of does run in the Holik family!!

I don't know what the deal is with Maggie. She is very vocal about how her feelings have been hurt. Like this morning we were outside, and I told her "no" about putting her hands in dirty water, and then putting them in her mouth.  She was so distraught, and crying, she would just look at me, and then literally cross her arms, and turn around and walk off crying.  It's kind of funny, but really it's not. :)

She is really the worst one I have had about sitting down in the grocery cart or staying strapped into a stroller. Just screams, and arches her back, and cries about it.  My arm nearly fell off in town yesterday because I had to hold her the entire time, at every store. Then at lunch, she threw such a fit, I think she broke my elbow. Not really, but you know the feeling when you are so exhausted just from wrangling with the kids.

I am probably revealing to you, my bad parenting, but we are working on it, and I think the main thing is obviously not giving into what she wants, and let her throw the fit because she does get over it; it just takes a good 5-6 minutes.

She's had some tummy issues, and she usually doesn't take a morning nap, so maybe both those things are playing a role in her bad behavior. But, that really can't be my excuse.

Other than all that, she is growing like a weed.  She understands so much that we say to her.  She has learned some new words that she mumbles out, for banana and more.  And she says other words really plan.

She loves to play fetch with a ball, swinging with the big kids, getting on the top bed with the big kids, and she loves sitting in the bath tub without her seat.

And, look how long her legs look in that carseat!!

It's Not About Me

Who knew I was going to learn a life lesson from Kylee's new bed?

Many of you saw the picture on facebook with her and her Daddy and the new bed.

Them two, I tell ya.  They can come up with some interesting stuff. So here's the story of Kylee and how she really got a new bed.

I happen to be gone to Eden one night, and Jason had the kids.  From what I heard when I got back this is what happened.  Kylee was looking through a  pottery barn magazine, and pointed at this bed, and said "I want that." Jason immediately said, "I can make that." Thinking she would forget about it, and that would make her quit talking about it.

It did quite the opposite. She tore the page out of the magazine went to bed with it that night, ate breakfast with it the next morning, and told both sets of grandparents over the next 2 days, that "my Daddy is going to make me this bed."

I don't know if it was at this point or when she said "Daddy you need to go to Lowe's to buy the wood for my bed" that Jason realized she wasn't going to forget. :)

Insert Mama into the picture. I had big dreams of her new bedding. You know the ruffled, pretty, bedding I showed you.  I knew that was down the drain because basically you won't see any of the pretty bedding from this kind of bed; the sides just block all of it.  I encouraged a different type of loft bed. One where the sides weren't so tall and the roof wasn't so close to the ceiling.  I don't even like loft beds to begin with.  And after I complained and mumbled under my breath for 4 days. Jason replied back "It's not about you."

He's right.  So, I got over it. Slowly.

She loves it; she asked to eat supper in it the first night! Notice her little laptop and stool underneath.  She likes playing down there.  It really is sweet.

The bond between them is I'm sure what any good father and daughter relationship is.  But it's so sweet to see how much she loves her Daddy; the way she looks at him and always asks for a 'hug and a kiss' before he leaves the house going somewhere.

She will always be able to look back on these sweet memories of having this bed, and be thankful for her Daddy!

Mama

The greatest joy in my life at any given moment is being a mama to my kids. Sometimes I worry that I need to be doing something bigger or something more than staying home, but God has reassured my doubting faith over and over again, that I'm am exactly were I need to be, and more than that he planned, purposed, and ordained Kylee, Jaxon, and Maggie to be my children, and for me to be their mother. No one else. He created them exactly the way He wanted.  Thank you God for the gifts of my children.

Look at what I got!!! I am so thrilled. To be honest with you I have been kind of jealous. Because, on Jason's 1st Father's Day, I made him a shadow box of some pictures of him and Kylee, and her hand prints with the lyrics to "Cinderella" by Steven Curtis Chapman.  It hangs on his side of the bed, and he really does like it, and she loves knowing it is there.  Well, I didn't have one of those type of things. But, now I do!!

Jason also took the big kids to town on Friday and they each picked out a necklace for me from Target :), and I got 2 packs of gum and M&M's from Maggie.

On Saturday morning, we went to the Mother's Day Tea Party at church. Here is our table decorated using my Grandmother's old dishes.

I told Jason all I wanted was a picture of me with the kids on Sunday morning before church.

This is possibly the hardest task ever!!

Here is the best one!!

And look at this, not one of them is looking up.  Which now I realize the sun was in their eyes. :)

Love Jaxon's face in this picture. And Kylee's purse!!

Kylee also performed 3 songs for Mother's Day in church on Sunday.  What a great time seeing her learn the songs with her cousins and then perform them.

We had a wonderful Mother's Day.

Swimming Suits & Baseball

The other day we went to play with the cousins at my parents house after school.

When Mondays roll around, after being around them on the weekends Kylee will be asking me, if they had to go to school today. They're always reading to go and play after school!!

They decided it was hot enough for everyone to find an 'old swimming suit that my mom had packed up in the closet from last year.  Amazing, there was one that fit everybody.  :) Jaxon and Karter just had to use their underwear as their swimming suit.

Maggie looks so big in these pictures; just like one of the kids....

Everyone played a little baseball too, with Dad pitching and me catching; it was fun.  All I have to say is Kylee is SO COMPETITIVE. She started screaming and crying when Karter tagged her out. That is definitely a thing she got from her mama, because Jason was the opposite, and pretty much didn't get to emotionally involved in his games.  I mean I was the one that cried after every 8th grade basketball game because we lost!!

We have not put her in any sports, so she hasn't seen others act like this; I truly think it's inherited. Looks like we have something to work on, oh for the next 14 years.
